The Sword of Glass Teaser is Here

You don’t have long to wait! Sometime on Saturday, I will release… pause for dramatic drumroll…the ENTIRE first chapter of The Sword of Glass! Nine pages worth of the beginning of a play off of Cinderella. Danger, adventure, heartbreak, tournaments, betrayal, romance, balls, fairy godmothers, and more! And I’m giving you a teaser from a different chapter! Enjoy! 😉

I was sure something was following me. Something big. And it happened to be on the one day I didn’t have my sword.

Then I heard it.

A gravelly, distorted voice cut through the silence, whispering with the gentleness of a stampeding horse. “Little girl, why do you run? Come here, and let me see you properly.”

I had heard of many magical creatures, but only one had a voice like that. Troll. I refrained from screaming, instead breaking into a sprint. My black skirt twisted around my legs as I ran, and I heard the creature following me. I broke into the clearing, slamming into someone at full speed and sending us both to the ground.

“Ow! What the-” Jayden started, but I clambered off him and dragged him to his feet.

“Troll!” I gasped, pulling him towards the other end of the clearing.

Jayden grabbed my arms, stopping me. “Clarissa! What on earth? There are no trolls in this wood. It’s not nearly big enough.”

“Jayden, trust me!” I pleaded, trying to tug him towards the cover of the trees again.

He locked eyes with me, then tensed, “You’re serious. What should we do?”

“Do you have a weapon or something?”

Jayden winced, “No, normally you do.”

I let out a frustrated sound, but my eyes were drawn to the creature that barreled out of the trees on the other side of the clearing. It was about my size, but looked as far from human as you could get. Its skin was tinted green and lumpy, sagging in wrinkles in several places. It had black, beady eyes set far back into its misshapen head, and its arms drug on the ground, much too long for it. I slapped a hand over my mouth, sure I was going to be sick. The troll stared at us, unmoving.

“There we are,” it croaked. “Now, come and your death will be faster.”

I took a deep breath, my mind racing. “What should we do?” I whispered to Jayden.

“Run!” he exclaimed as he grabbed my hand and jerked me into towards the trees on the other side of the clearing.

That’s something you’ll have to get used to with my writing. Cliffhangers. I make a point to end nearly every chapter with one, so prepare yourself. But, otherwise I’ll be polishing off the first chapter of my novel for you guys on Saturday. Subscribe to be notified when it comes out!

Till my pen meets the paper again,

Tatum

When you hear the word ‘football,’ you’re probably not envisioning a fourteen-year-old girl who wears sweatshirts and spends all of her time writing novels or, you guessed it, watching NFL. The Write Zone is a place where you can catch up on football news or read some bits of my unpublished novels, and maybe The Write Zone will change the way you view both writing and football.
