Brock Purdy was not expected to be who he is today. In the 2022 draft, when he was brought into the NFL, he was the very last pick. As in, 262th pick. The leftovers. The “He’s probably going to end up an emergency third QB” pick.
He attended the NFL Scouting Combine that year, and did not perform well. Most QBs average 4.60 seconds on their 40 yard dash, but Brock Purdy had a time of 4.84. Defensive ends can be faster than that. Also, he recorded a 27” vertical jump, which is shorter than the regular 30”-33” for a QB.
He soon had a chance to prove himself as a sufficient backup for Jimmy Garoppolo, who was starter at the time. On December 13, 2022, he got to play for an injured Garoppolo against the Miami Dolphins. He threw for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in a 33-17 win, becoming the first “Mr. Irrelevant” to throw a TD pass.
While this name had been given to a lot of last pick players, Brock Purdy embraced it and became the most successful ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ ever.
There’s your fact for today!
See you at the next snap,
Tatum
