Have you ever heard of the writing challenge called NaNoWriMo? If you have, then you probably have also heard that it shut down because so many people were using AI, and all the real writers were ticked. (Including myself) If you don’t know what it is, then you might believe you have no need to because the NaNoWriMo site closed. Well, here’s what I think; I don’t need no official organization to write a novel in a month! And so if you’re a novelist who wished it hadn’t closed, or if you’re a newer writer who wants to know what it is, keep reading.
For those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month- where hundreds of thousands of people did this challenge every November up until last year, when the non profit organization shut down because people were using AI to assist their writing. But man, it doesn’t matter if it’s not official anymore. If you want to do it, all you need is an empty Google Doc (you can keep track of words easier that way), determination to reach 50,000 words, a head full of ideas.
1666 words a day for thirty days may seem overwhelming, especially if you’re a parent or work full time. So many people shoot for 25,000 total words because 833 words per day is much more doable. It doesn’t matter how many words your goal is: it’s the participation, dedication, and determination that counts. And I know that coming up with ideas can be hard, so I’ll post about several different idea-stimulating exercises that you can try later today (After the first chapter of my novel The Sword of Glass is posted! Keep an eye out for that!)
So here’s my challenge to you. If you’ve wanted to write a novel, join me on the journey of a lifetime in November. I’ll give you some more NaNoWriMo advice and share part of my journey throughout October (For the pre-writing stages) and during the actual challenge, with you all the way. And hey, if you have a particular aspect of NaNoWriMo or writing in general leave a comment and I might be able to write a blog that could assist you as you become an author.
Till my pen meets the paper again,
Tatum
