Two Losses for the Superbowl Team? Giant’s beat Eagles 34-17

Eagles fans are likely still watching replays of their team’s surprising 34–17 loss to the New York Giants on Thursday night, trying to figure out what happened. Initially, I thought, “That’s going to be an ugly game,” but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The Eagles-Giants rivalry has often felt one-sided in recent years, with Philadelphia expected to dominate. However, the Giants turned the tables at MetLife Stadium, reigniting this long-standing rivalry.

From the outset, the Giants played with a fire I hadn’t seen in their 2025 season—honestly, not even in 2024. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart took the field with poise, spreading the ball effectively and using his legs when necessary. The Eagles struck early with a combination of short gains and a field goal on their opening drive, but New York responded with a blend of great execution and field position that took over by the second half.

“I think the third quarter, low key, is becoming our kryptonite,” said A.J. Brown after the Giants’ loss. New York Post. I agree with this wide receiver; the Broncos came back fighting hard last week in the third quarter, and it was the exact same story with the Giants on Thursday.

But I have to mention what I like to call “the rise of Cam Skattebo”. The running back carried 19 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns. You don’t see that from a rookie very often. The Giants leaned heavily on Skattebo’s consistency during the second half, with his final touchdown putting the cap on the game. If anything, Skattebo proved that he belonged among the offensive ranks that can take down a strong team like the Eagles.

I believe the turning point in the game was the interception. Cor’Dale Flott intercepted Jalen Hurts in the 4th quarter and returned it 68 yards; that was Hurts’ first interception of the season, snapping a streak of 305 passes without a pick. When Hurts was asked about that pass, his simple reply was, “Bad ball… Bad ball.”

On defense, the Giants sacked Hurts three times, with Brian Burns recording two of those sacks, tying him for the NFL lead at that moment.

This wasn’t just a win—it was a statement. The Giants took on the reigning Super Bowl champions and made it look like their game. Young players like Dart and Skattebo delivered breakout performances. The defense made clutch stops. For once, the Eagles’ offense looked human. This might be a sign that the Eagles aren’t the team they were last year, and the Giants are fighting their division rivals harder than ever before.

See you at the next snap,

When you hear the word ‘football,’ you’re probably not envisioning a fourteen-year-old girl who wears sweatshirts and spends all of her time writing novels or, you guessed it, watching NFL. The Write Zone is a place where you can catch up on football news or read some bits of my unpublished novels, and maybe The Write Zone will change the way you view both writing and football.
