Weekly Writing Prompt

Time for the weekly writing prompt again! 😉

I woke up, lying in my uncomfortable bed with a cramp in my side. As usual. I threw my rough quilt off my legs, my bare feet pressing against the rough wood floor of my old house. I hadn’t been able to afford a rug yet.

Shuffling to the kitchen, which was really the only other room in the house, I grabbed a mug from the lone cabinet above my small stove. I hit the button on the coffee machine to start brewing it, but my eyes drifted to the outside of the clear pot, which was reflecting something red on the wall behind me.

I spun, and stared at the crude red letters painted on my flowered wall paper: Theresa Higgins stayed out past curfew three nights ago. I blinked, a picture of a fourteen year old girl that lived across the street coming to mind. I jumped when something wet splatted on my nose, and my finger touched the spot, coming back red. I looked up at my low ceiling, where more words were illustrated: Farmer Jackson sold his pigs for five times more than they were worth by lying to the buyer.

I heard screams from outside, and I felt the blood rush from my face. The towns secrets were splattered across the walls. And mine were somewhere too….
