Weekly Writing Prompt

So it’s been a moment because life goes on and so does high school, therefore making me very busy, but I finally have time to sit down and give you your writing prompt that I should’ve given a week or two ago. Here you are! 😉

Smells of Thanksgiving drifted from the oven to where I sat on my sofa, making my mouth water. I stood, and entered the kitchen, where I pulled out my single tray of rolls from the oven.

“Hello?” I jumped as a voice filled the air around me. “Oh, this is a recording. Well, anyways, this is Mia.”

I walked over to my desk, where my landline sat, a voicemail coming out of its speaker. I thought about picking up the phone, but decided to keep listening instead.

“… but I knew you’d be lonely, so I called up a few friends of mine to see if they wanted to join you for dinner, but no one responded. I hope I wasn’t the only one coming, and I am sorry, but I had other things to do and a different place to go. I have to go, so have a great dinner.”

I heard a click, then the room went still. Mia was the only one I had invited, so now it was dinner for one. I moved to my tiny table, and started to pick up the extra plate when a knock sounded on my door.

“If Mia is pranking me,” I muttered, marching to my door, “she’s not going to be happy.”

I unlocked my door, and opened it, staring not at the face of Mia but instead at a figure with their hood up. And two shining blue eyes looked up at me….
